Make crispy, saucy Bang Bang Shrimp quickly using an air fryer. This recipe delivers a spicy and creamy coating perfect for an appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cooking spray
  • For the Bang Bang Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp completely dry with paper towels.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk the egg white until slightly frothy.
  3. In a separate shallow dish, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
  4. Dip each shrimp first into the egg white, letting excess drip off, then dredge thoroughly in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
  6. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the coated shrimp in a single layer in the basket, working in batches if necessary. Spray the tops of the shrimp lightly with cooking spray.
  7. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the shrimp are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. While the shrimp cooks, prepare the sauce: Whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, rice vinegar, and garlic powder in a small bowl until smooth.
  9. Place the hot, crispy shrimp in a large bowl. Pour the Bang Bang sauce over the shrimp and toss gently until all pieces are coated.
  10. Serve immediately over rice, in lettuce cups, or as an appetizer with toothpicks.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, chill the coated, uncooked shrimp on a wire rack in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before air frying.
  • If you do not have rice vinegar, you can substitute it with white vinegar, but use slightly less.
  • Serve this dish over shredded lettuce or cabbage for a lighter meal option.
