Ingredients
Scale
1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup apple cider
1/4 cup sour cream
For the Topping:
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a donut pan or muffin tin.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
In a small bowl, whisk together the apple cider and sour cream.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the apple cider mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
While the donuts are cooling, prepare the topping. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon.
Once the donuts are cool, dip each one into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating both sides.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use fresh apple cider.
Ensure your butter and egg are at room temperature for best results.
Don’t overmix the batter; this will result in tough donuts.
These donuts are best enjoyed the same day they are made, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
