Create a festive centerpiece for your holiday mornings with these adorable, easy-to-make cinnamon rolls shaped like a Christmas tree. This recipe focuses on using refrigerated dough for a quick, cheerful breakfast treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12.6 ounce) can refrigerated jumbo cinnamon rolls (usually 5 rolls)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional, for ‘ornaments’)
  • 1/4 cup green sprinkles (optional, for decoration)
  • 1 package cream cheese icing (from the roll can)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the cinnamon roll container, usually 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Remove the cinnamon rolls from the packaging. Separate the rolls. You will need 11 pieces to form the tree shape: 5 for the bottom row, 4 for the middle row, 1 for the top point, and 1 for the trunk.
  3. Arrange the rolls on the prepared baking sheet to form a tree shape. Place 5 rolls side-by-side in a row at the bottom. Place 4 rolls above this row, centered over the gaps of the bottom row. Place 1 roll above that, centered over the gap below it. Place the final roll at the very bottom center to act as the trunk. You should have a triangle shape with a small base.
  4. If using, brush the tops of the rolls lightly with melted butter.
  5. Bake according to the package directions, usually 15 to 20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven. Let the rolls cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes.
  7. While the rolls are still warm, open the icing packet and drizzle the icing over the entire tree shape.
  8. Immediately sprinkle the chopped nuts (if using) and green sprinkles over the icing to look like ornaments.
  9. Serve warm as a delightful Christmas morning treat.

Notes

  • If you prefer to make your own dough, use about 1 pound of your favorite cinnamon roll dough, cut into 16 equal pieces, and arrange them in the tree shape (5-4-3-2-1 pattern, plus a trunk piece).
  • For a richer flavor, you can mix the provided icing with 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract before drizzling.
  • This pull apart cinnamon roll tree is a great family friendly Christmas breakfast idea; let kids help place the sprinkles.
