Make this zesty and creamy horseradish sauce at home in minutes. It is the perfect tangy topping for prime rib, roast beef, or steak.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup prepared horseradish, drained
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. You will need a medium bowl for mixing.
  2. Place the sour cream, drained prepared horseradish, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and lemon juice into the bowl.
  3. Add the salt and pepper to the mixture.
  4. Use a whisk or a spoon to combine all ingredients thoroughly until the sauce is smooth and uniform in color.
  5. Taste the sauce. If you want more zing, add a small amount more prepared horseradish.
  6. Cover the bowl and chill the sauce in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to blend.
  7. Serve your homemade horseradish sauce with your favorite roast beef or steak.

Notes

  • Drain the prepared horseradish well; excess liquid makes the sauce watery.
  • For a sharper flavor, use fresh, freshly grated horseradish root instead of prepared.
  • If you prefer a thinner consistency, add a teaspoon of milk or heavy cream until you reach your desired texture.
  • This sauce is excellent as a spicy dipping sauce for roasted vegetables.
