Prepare a flavorful shrimp bowl featuring sautéed shrimp coated in a rich garlic butter sauce, served over perfectly cooked white rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice: Combine the rice and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork.
  2. Season the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  3. Melt the butter: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter.
  4. Sauté the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Make the sauce: Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the same skillet. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  6. Deglaze: Pour in the chicken broth (or water) and lemon juice. Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the sauce simmer and reduce slightly for 1 minute.
  7. Combine: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Toss gently to coat the shrimp completely in the garlic butter sauce.
  8. Assemble the bowls: Divide the cooked rice among serving bowls. Top the rice with the garlic butter shrimp and spoon any remaining sauce over the top.
  9. Garnish: Sprinkle each bowl with fresh parsley and lemon zest before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use unsalted butter so you control the final salt level.
  • Do not overcook the shrimp; they cook very quickly in the hot butter.
  • If you prefer brown rice, adjust the cooking time according to package directions, usually requiring more water and time.
