Cook tender ham steaks quickly in a skillet using a simple sweet and savory honey, brown sugar, and mustard glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (1/2 inch thick) fully cooked ham steaks
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Pat the ham steaks dry with paper towels.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Place the ham steaks in the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until lightly browned. Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and set them aside.
  4. In the same skillet, combine the honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, and black pepper.
  5. Bring the glaze mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves, about 1 minute. Let it bubble gently for 1 minute until it thickens slightly.
  6. Return the ham steaks to the skillet. Spoon the glaze over both sides of the ham steaks.
  7. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes more, turning once, until the glaze coats the ham and the ham is heated through.
  8. Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and serve immediately with the remaining glaze spooned over the top.

Notes

  • Serve these ham steaks with mashed potatoes or roasted green beans.
  • You can make this recipe ahead by preparing the glaze and storing it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat the glaze before using.
  • For a crispier edge, increase the heat slightly during the initial searing step.
