Make a refreshing homemade iced tea combining brewed black tea, fresh strawberries, and tart lemon juice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose leaf tea)
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups cold water (for dilution)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Combine 4 cups of water, sliced strawberries, and sugar in a small saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the strawberry mixture steep for 15 minutes.
  4. Strain the strawberry syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on the solids to extract all liquid. Discard the solids.
  5. In a separate container, brew the tea by steeping the tea bags in 2 cups of boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags.
  6. Combine the hot brewed tea, the strained strawberry syrup, and the fresh lemon juice in a large pitcher. Stir well.
  7. Add 2 cups of cold water to the pitcher and stir again.
  8. Chill the tea mixture completely in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  9. To serve, fill glasses with ice, pour the chilled tea over the ice, and garnish with a lemon slice or a fresh strawberry.

Notes

  • For a clearer tea, chill the brewed tea before mixing it with the syrup and lemon juice.
  • If you prefer a less sweet tea, start with 1/3 cup of sugar and adjust to your taste after chilling.
  • You can substitute half of the cold water with sparkling water just before serving for a fizzy drink.
