Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, milk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix. The batter will be thick.
  4. In a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven, heat about 3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully drop rounded tablespoons of batter into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot.
  6. Fry the donut holes for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Using a slotted spoon, remove the donut holes from the oil and place them on a wire rack set over paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  8. While the donut holes are still warm, combine the 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon in a shallow dish.
  9. Toss the warm donut holes in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade pumpkin spice donut holes!

Notes

  • Ensure your oil is at the correct temperature for evenly cooked donut holes.
  • Be careful when working with hot oil.
  • For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of black pepper to the cinnamon sugar coating.
