This rich and creamy sausage cream cheese dip uses just a few ingredients, making it a simple, crowd-pleasing appetizer perfect for game day or any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (10 ounce) can Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for extra cheesiness)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease completely.
  2. Reduce the heat to low. Add the softened cream cheese to the skillet with the cooked sausage. Stir until the cream cheese is fully melted and combined with the sausage, creating a creamy base.
  3. Stir in the undrained Rotel tomatoes and green chilies. If you are using cheddar cheese, stir it in now until melted.
  4. If you want a thinner, richer dip, stir in the heavy cream.
  5. Heat everything gently until warmed through, about 5 to 10 minutes. Do not boil.
  6. Transfer the hot sausage cream cheese dip to a serving bowl. Serve warm immediately.

Notes

  • You can easily adapt this recipe for a slow cooker. Combine all ingredients in a small slow cooker and cook on low for 2 hours or on high for 1 hour, stirring occasionally until smooth.
  • For a spicier kick, use hot sausage or add a dash of your favorite hot sauce along with the Rotel.
  • Serve this savory cream cheese spread with sturdy tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetable sticks.
