Prepare a fast, flavorful meal featuring shrimp coated in a sticky, sweet, and spicy honey garlic sauce, served over steamed rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon cold water (slurry)
  • Optional garnish: Sesame seeds, sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare your rice according to package directions. Keep warm.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sriracha, minced garlic, and grated ginger. This is your sauce base.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink. Do not overcook.
  5. Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the shrimp in the skillet. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
  6. Stir the cornstarch slurry once more and pour it slowly into the simmering sauce, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 30 seconds.
  7. Remove the skillet from the heat immediately once the sauce coats the shrimp well.
  8. To assemble the bowl, place one cup of cooked rice in the bottom of each serving bowl.
  9. Spoon the spicy honey garlic shrimp over the rice.
  10. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For adjustable spice, start with 1/2 tablespoon of sriracha and add more to the sauce base if you prefer higher heat.
  • You can add 1 cup of quick-cooking vegetables like broccoli florets or sliced bell peppers to the skillet after the shrimp is almost cooked, then add the sauce.
  • For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of honey for half the amount specified.
