Make crispy homemade onion rings using your air fryer with this straightforward recipe. This method uses minimal oil for a healthier result.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray (oil-based)

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Separate the rings and set aside.
  2. Set up a dredging station with three shallow dishes. In the first dish, mix the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. In the second dish, whisk the eggs and milk together.
  4. Place the Panko breadcrumbs in the third dish.
  5. Dredge each onion ring first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  6. Dip the floured ring into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
  7. Coat the ring thoroughly in the Panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Place coated rings on a wire rack.
  8. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C) for 5 minutes.
  9. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the onion rings in a single layer; do not overcrowd the basket. Work in batches if necessary.
  10. Lightly spray the tops of the onion rings with cooking spray.
  11. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping the rings halfway through the cooking time. Spray the second side lightly with cooking spray before flipping.
  12. Remove when golden brown and crispy. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best results and maximum crispness, ensure the onion rings are in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • If the breading seems loose, dip the ring back into the egg mixture briefly before coating with Panko again.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup or ranch dressing.
