Ingredients
- 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- For the Topping:
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a donut pan or muffin tin.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the apple cider and sour cream.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the apple cider mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the donuts are cooling, prepare the topping. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Once the donuts are cool, dip each one into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating both sides.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use fresh apple cider.
- Ensure your butter and egg are at room temperature for best results.
- Don’t overmix the batter; this will result in tough donuts.
- These donuts are best enjoyed the same day they are made, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
